PORTLAND, Ore. — A dog named Woody is able to run around and play again after recovering from a rare and complex brain surgery.
DoveLewis Animal Hospital in Portland said Woody’s family noticed last August that he started stumbling on stairs, hesitating before jumps, and losing his balance.
The hospital says his condition got worse, and the neurology department found a large bone tumor on his skull pressing against his brain.
KATU News talked with neurosurgeon Dr. John Du at DoveLewis about this complicated operation.
“The major risk we were worried about was the tumor was very close to a few major blood vessels around the skull and it took about four to six hours, I believe, in total to be removed safely,” said Dr. Du with DoveLewis.
“The post-op recovery really takes a whole lot of people to work together, and watching him very closely, and to have a commitment owner have the team to support his post-op and have him coming back for a recheck all these are necessary components for his success of outcome,” he continued.
DoveLewis said Woody is back to walking a mile every day and living his best life.
